Jon Bullock, board chair
Redmond Proficiency Academy

Jon Bullock is the Executive Director of the Redmond Proficiency Academy, a proficiency-based charter school that he helped found. He is a Redmond City Councilor and a major proponent of personalized learning and educational innovations. Jon was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees for Southern Oregon University.
For nearly 25 years, Jon has worked with young people as a teacher, coach, and administrator.
As a community leader, he has developed a deep connection to the people in Redmond. Jon has combined his passion and skills as an educator with private sector and non-profit experience to develop one of the largest and most successful charter schools in Oregon. Jon grew up in Roseburg, where he learned the value of hard work and the importance of giving back to his community. As a student, Jon discovered that education provided a path to opportunity, which led him to earn his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University, his master’s degree from Willamette University, and his doctoral degree from the University of Oregon.
Jon’s experiences in postsecondary education have confirmed his belief that every young person deserves a quality education, and he has built his career around that principle. Jon has earned acclaim for speaking to students and educators about self-acceptance and the power of vulnerability. He gave a TEDx talk entitled “What’s In Your Bag?” that challenged people to be honest with themselves and those around them about their hopes, dreams, fears, and failures. These ideas are at the core of his leadership philosophy, and they inform his approach to public education and community building.
